US expands list of countries whose citizens must pay up to $15,000 bonds to apply for visas
Canada has introduced a new Temporary Resident (TR) to Permanent Resident (PR) pathway that could allow up to 33,000 temporary foreign workers to transition to permanent residency in the coming years.
According to Lena Metlege Diab, the program has recently entered a soft-launch phase. This means the initiative may already be active while the government prepares to release additional details about eligibility requirements and the official application process. More information about the program is expected to be announced in the coming months.
The new pathway aims to support temporary workers who are already contributing to Canadaβs economy and communities. It is expected to provide an additional route to permanent residency, separate from existing programs such as Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program.
Who could benefit from this pathway?
The program is expected to focus on temporary workers with valid work permits who are employed in sectors experiencing labour shortages and who have built strong ties to Canadian communities.
π Possible priority sectors include:
πΎ Agriculture
π¨ Hospitality & Tourism
π Transportation & Logistics
π₯ Healthcare
π©ββοΈ Care & Support Services
These industries have relied heavily on temporary foreign workers to fill important roles across the country.
